What a text credit, an email, and an AI credit actually buy.
A text message
One text credit per 160-character segment, or 153 once a message is long enough to split. Add an emoji or any character outside the plain GSM alphabet and the whole message switches to 70-character segments (67 when split). The composer shows the exact segment count before you send.
A picture in a text
A flat 3 credits per message, whatever the picture or the words beside it. Picture messages bill as one message, not by the segment.
An email
One send to one person counts as one email against your monthly allowance. A campaign to 2,000 contacts is 2,000 emails, not one.
An AI credit is one full generation: on-brand artwork and copy for a post, sized for every platform you publish it to. Creating a picture with AI, or recreating one you already have, costs one AI credit. Asking the AI to rewrite something you've already written costs a quarter AI credit each time, in any channel, because a rewrite is a smaller ask than starting from nothing. AI credits come with your plan each month; they are separate from the text credits you buy in packs.

What happens when I hit a limit?
On a paid plan, hitting a limit stops nothing. Only the extra is billed, at the rates above. On Free, sending and generating pause at the limit instead: nothing bills, and nothing sends until the next period or an upgrade. Brands and team members are a different kind of limit, a hard ceiling that you raise by upgrading. Connected social channels are only capped on Free (3, matching Buffer's own free plan). On any paid plan, your Buffer plan is the only ceiling.
What happens if I downgrade?
Nothing is deleted. Your oldest brands keep working. Any brand past the new plan's limit can still be edited, but can't create new work or send until you're back under the limit or upgrade again. The same oldest-first rule applies to team members, except owners. An owner never loses access.
Do text message credits expire?
No. A credit pack is bought once and drawn down as you send. There is no monthly reset and no use it or lose it.
